Bathroom Makeover: Get a New Bath Without Taking a Bath

Paint, paper and joyful touches transform a small bathroom.

Bathroom Makeover

In the mood for a new bath but can’t budget the cost and endure days of workmen trudging through your home? A new bathroom can be achieved with some creative ingenuity. Alicia Paulson used fun colors and accents to make this bathroom one of the perkiest rooms in her house. The style is reminiscent of seaside holidays in France, where red striped umbrellas and blue ocean tones define the look.

Bathroom Makeover

Paint It:

Alicia Paulson encourages you to test paint on your walls rather than depend on a color chip. “It is totally worth it,” she says. “If you put five test spots on the wall and watch them at different times of the day, you’ll be surprised at how you’ll just know which one is right for you.”

Bathroom Makeover

Try It:

A basic shelf is not only a dependable catchall for your bathroom necessities, it can be a display that’s as pretty as any picture. To keep necessities from looking like elements on a locker shelf, group them by color, height and theme. Classic pieces like a great hairbrush and beautifully packaged soap are the decorative pieces used to give this bathroom a styled look.
