This holiday season, give a gift that’s value exceeds any price tag. Help your child create a salad bowl for friends and family that is sure to become a permanent fixture of the dining room table.
Just because your kindergartener made your gift does not mean it cannot be worthy of something store bought. Here’s an idea, give a handmade gift that transcends the weekly rotation on the refrigerator door but of heirloom quality. This salad bowl will be enjoyed, talked about and used even when your young child leaves the nest.
We began with a quality wooden bowl by Hofcraft. Seal the outside of the bowl. Select non-toxic paint in your chosen colors and, using your child’s finger painting expertise, have your child insert their fingers and create a compilation of flowers on the outside surface. Please note, we do not recommend painting on the inside or any surface that will be used for food.
After you finish your painting, you will need to seal the bowl again with a varnish to preserve the painted surface. Finally, you will need to seal the inside of the bowl.
