Beyond the Sea

Warm sunshine and salty sea breezes on repeat—the lazy days of summer are just around the corner!

Whether you live in a coastal town, love to sink your toes in warm sand at the beach every chance you get or are just inspired by all things seaside, coastal style is fresh and vibrant—much like the sea itself. With saturated blues and greens mingling with crisp whites, fresh slipcovers, weathered woods in abundance, splashes of sunshine and natural textures woven through a room, you can easily create a romantic coastal vibe.

Coastal style is a relaxed, easy style to live with and enjoy—and this month is filled with that beautiful inspiration. From bedrooms designed in classic hues to Shabby Chic rooms filled with sunshine, get inspired to add a bit of fresh coastal style to your home this summer. If you’re looking to refresh your indoor and outdoor spaces, check out our beachy finds, along with plenty of house tours and other looks that can revive your home with a summery flair.

So, sit back and relax as you enjoy the summer season, and embrace the light and airy side of coastal style.

Spring is in the Air!

Open your home to the fresh inspiration of Spring!

Courtney Allison styles a country look for spring
Curate an effortless country look with a few everyday elements.

With a bright, new season just around the corner, the world is waking up from a long winter nap to pretty blooms, warm sunshine and all the beauty that springtime brings.

And here at Romantic Homes, that has us feeling pretty excited. This month, we’re all about inspiring  indoors as well as outdoors and that dream-filled country life.

Flowers drying on an old orchard ladder is a simple, delightful way to bring country charm to a room. In my guest cottage, I used a 15-foot vintage ladder, but you can recreate the look with any wooden ladder simply by leaning it against the wall. For a finishing touch, fill a grain sack-style bag with dried hydrangeas.

A Fresh Start

We're approaching 2018 with renewed motivation to sort through the clutter, tackle a DIY project or two and take advantage of every opportunity for a happy new year at home.

We’re looking forward to the fresh opportunities of a brand new year!

A new year brings a fresh start.

It’s a time for reflecting and setting goals—and it’s also a perfect time for making a few changes around the home. Maybe this is the year of the bathroom renovation, the decor changes to bring that French feeling to your living room or the fresh coat of paint on your walls.

This month storage and simplifying are at the top of the list, and your new-year-new-look projects don’t have to be expensive or involved. Think simple with changes such as redecorating storage areas to be functional and pretty. It’s as easy as lining the shelves inside the closet with wallpaper or fabric and clearing out items you don’t use.

Keep your home feeling fresh by simplifying. Corral unnecessary clutter in a chunky tray or bowl on the sideboard. Put away those appliances that always land on the counters and pick up a few baskets for storing everyday bits to keep your home feeling fresh and clutter free.

This month, you’ll find loads of inspiration for decorating and organizing, smart storage products, and travel goals for 2018.

Wishing you a Happy New Year!

Courtney’s 5 Favorite Ways to Add Romantic Style

Courtney Allison shares her 5 favorite ways to add romantic style to any space.

Each person interprets romantic style in a unique way. To me, the look is simply not complete without my five favorite essentials!

Courtney Allison's bedroom is full of romantic style
Courtney’s classic gingham sofa makes a statement against the bedroom’s neutral tones.

1. Fresh Flowers

Fresh flowers instantly add warmth and charm to your home. Think outside the nightstand and dining-room-table box. I love to add them in the bathrooms, on the window sill in the kitchen and even on the outdoor tables.

2. Barely Blushing

Barely-there blush and shades of creams and whites are perfect ways to add a bit of romantic style. Your colors don’t have to be oversaturated to make a statement. Think subtle and simple for big impact.

3. The Midas Touch

I always love a bit of gold mixed in to create a romantic, elegant feeling.  Adding just a touch of gold on the mantel or table is all you need to bring a bit of drama.

4. A Little Bit of Bling

I am a big believer in the power of chandeliers—and those crystals and pretty little details add instant sophistication and romance to a room.

5. Something with a Story

Incorporate something with pretty patina. A gilded finish on the frame. A carved vintage chair covered in white linen—anything with a bit of history adds romance and character to a room. Plus, it gives you something to talk about when you have guests.

Enjoy A #NewRomance With Romantic Homes

A brand-new look, always living beautifully.

I have always been a romantic at heart.

It starts with my love of vintage pieces and their stories—those intricately flowered trinkets that hold a memory and simple touches that create a moment on a table or nightstand. I believe in a lifestyle that involves flowers, chandeliers and celebrating every day.

My blog, French Country Cottage, has allowed me to indulge my romantic side and share what I love and what inspires me. To me, a romantic-inspired life embraces nostalgia, but feels fresh and current at the same time. It is one that delights in your favorite things and everyday occasions as much as the special ones. Romantic style tells your story and encourages you to live life beautifully decorated.

You might notice that we have a new look. In the October issue, you’ll find that same romantic charm and style you have come to love, mixed with simple beauty and elegance.

We’ve got you covered, from tours of charming homes to travel and favorite romantic escapes to tips for creating your dream style, ideas for entertaining and much, much more. I’m so excited about our updated and inviting Romantic Homes, and I’m looking forward to sharing more of what I love and what inspires me with you.

Welcome to the new Romantic Homes! We’re so glad that you’re here.

Sincerely,
